自2019年12月爆發新冠肺炎(COVID-19)疫情，並蔓延至世界各國，台灣也無法倖免。依據中央流行疫情指揮中心統計，台灣確診病例持續增加，各項防疫物資需求急遽攀升，甚至一度出現短缺現象，例如傳出民眾排隊搶購醫用口罩，甚至搶不到的現象。

作為台灣防疫物資之主要塑膠原料生產商，本公司本著以「滿足台灣防疫需求為優先」之原則，全力支援台灣各項防疫物資業者生產所需，包含 醫療機構必須使用之聚氯乙烯(PVC)輸血袋、點滴袋、醫療手套，以及聚丙烯(PP)點滴瓶、針筒、藥水瓶外，還有本次疫情所需之防護衣與醫用口罩，確保所有相關原料供應無虞，也主動協助口罩國家隊提升口罩產量，為防疫工作貢獻一份心力。

醫用口罩主要由三層PP不織布、高密度聚乙烯(HDPE)鼻樑壓條及彈性纖維耳帶所組成，2020年1~3月台塑公司累計供應2,124噸的PP，可供生產約5.3億片口罩，若以每片口罩5元計算，增加產值26.5億元。

Since the outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19) spreading to the world, the surgical masks became a critical issue worldwide. FPC not only voluntarily offers sodium hypochlorite solution (the bleach) for free as the sanitizer, but also do everything we can to help surgical mask manufactures increase production with sufficient raw material supply.

A surgical mask may be made with three layers of non-woven fabric (PP), HDPE nose wire and spandex ear loops. FPC has provided 2,124 tons of PP for surgical masks from January to March, 2020 which could make about 530,000,000 masks.
