With the advent of Internet of Things (IoT) which requires large numbers of wireless sensors to reduce the inconvenience of replacing batteries, we have initiated fundamental research to study dye-sensitized batteries that can generate electricity through dim light since 1999, and has successfully obtained 8 patients so far. Since 2011, we have been collaborating with Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), and have obtained a science and technology project from the Ministry of Economic Affairs. At present, we have obtained one patent, while being the only company in the world that is capable of developing the automated trial mass production. In August 2017, we and ITRI have jointly invested NT$160 million to build an automated trial mass production line in College of Photonics, National Chiao Tung University located in Shalun, Tainan. We will invest NT$800 million to set up a mass production line with a production capacity of 0.5MW in Renwu Complex, which is expected to be completed and begin mass production by the end of 2019.
Besides, in order to cater to the future trend of composite materials, we plan to invest NT$340 million to establish a composite material center focusing on materials including PP, POM, PVC, carbon fiber, PE/EVA and calcium carbonate, with the purpose of developing weather-resistant, eco-friendly, lightweight, highrigidity and high-impact resistance composite materials. This center is expected to be completed by the end of 2019, with hopes of turning Renwu Complex into an evolutionary R&D and production base for material and energy innovation in a low-carbon and circular economy, thereby attracting the arrival of high-end talent and boosting local employment opportunities.
Furthermore, in response to the rise of innovative technologies such as Industry 4.0 and artificial intelligence (AI), we will use Renwu Complex as the base for our data center, and utilize our mass production and management data, which serve as the foundation of AI development, to transform Renwu Complex into FPC's Industry 4.0 and AI development center. Priority will be given to the development of smart manufacturing technology, equipment anomaly alert, smart equipment development and smart monitoring technology, while subsequently expanding the scope of industrial application.
